Today I’m showing you how to decorate your Book Treat Box. This is a fun box to put together and decorate with unlimited possibilities. The box is quite easy to put together, even the tape is already on the box, you just have to peel the backing off.
I used the Take A Bow Designer Series Paper and the Reindeer Fun Dies to decorate my box. Before attaching the box to the cover, I decorated the 4 sides of the box. I cut 2 pieces of 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ and 2 pieces of 7/8″ x 2 5/8″. I adhered the DSP to the box with glue but you can use whatever adhesive you like. I also decorated the cover before putting it together. I cut 2 pieces of DSP that measured 2 7/8″ x 3 7/8″ and one piece 15/16″ x 3 7/8″. If you notice, the outside edges of the cover are slightly curved. I placed the edge of the paper up against the edge of the cover and trimmed the curve part with a pair of scissors. I did this on the front and back. I then glued the DSP to the front, back and spine.
There is a piece of tape on the book flap to hold it closed but I didn’t want to use that so I covered both the top and underside of the flap with DSP that measured 1″ x 3″, and trimmed along the curved part with scissors.
The flap will fit under the decorated piece on top but I prefer to use magnets to help hold it in place. I adhered one magnet near the edge of the flap with a glue dot. I added another magnet to the original one and added a glue dot to that. Then when I folded the flap over, the magnet adhered itself to the cover, so both magnets were lined up perfectly. (My magnets are N35 neodymium 8mm x 1mm that I ordered from ebay)
Here you can see how I placed my Dimensionals on top of each other to give it more height for the flap to slide under.
Now to decorate the front of your book cover. Using a 2 3/8″ circle punch I cut a piece of Real Red cardstock as well as a piece of DSP. The DSP is too flimsy to use on its own, so the DSP was adhered to the cardstock. I adhered the circle with double Dimensionals, one on top of the other, taking care to ensure that there were no Dimensionals where the flap would slide under.
Using the Reindeer Fun Dies, I cut the reindeer out in Early Espresso, Crumb Cake and Pecan Pie. The wreath was cut in Garden Green. The reindeer was popped up with Dimensionals. Real Red and White Baker’s Twine was used to create the little bow on the wreath and was held in place with glue.
I hope you’ll make some of these Book Treat Boxes and have fun creating your own designs.
